Mountain streams are usually confined to narrow channels and tend to transport sizable amounts of gravel, sand, clay, and silt - material that geologists call alluvium. The type and quantity of alluvium transported depends on the volume of the water flow and the gradient of the stream. Larger rivers pick up more alluvium than smaller ones; fast-flowing streams on steep slopes transport coarser sediment than slow-moving ones on shallow slopes.
NASA’s Landsat 8 satellite captured this view of an alluvial fan in Kazakhstan’s Almaty province on September 25, 2013. In the left of this image offered by Customaps, the Tente River flows through a narrow channel in the foothills of the Dzungarian Alatau range. Where the Tente emerges from the hills near Lake Alakol, it spreads out and becomes a braided stream. The movement of the channel over time has left a large fan that’s about 15 miles (25 km) across at its widest point.

- PEEL & STICK WALL MURALS:
Our wall murals are made of a self-adhesive thin polyester fabric material. They have the look and feel of a very thin canvas and do not require use of wallpaper paste or any extra glue for hanging. Our map murals can easily be removed, leaving no trace or sticky residue on 99% of any surface! They can be moved and re-applied over and over again, as the adhesive does not weaken or strengthen over time. Stick your map for a day – or stick it for a decade – still removes with no issues. Our material is green, nontoxic and safe. We protect them with a transparent laminate, which allows you to clean your map with a damp sponge.
Note: it is recommended to apply your wall mural on LOW or NO VOC paints.
