This overview shows an aircraft taking off from McCarran International Airport, Las Vegas Valley and Clark County's main commercial airport in Nevada, United States. It is only about 5 miles (8 km) south of downtown Las Vegas and is the 24th busiest airport in the world in terms of passenger traffic with 42 million passengers passing through the airport in 2013.
In terms of aircraft movements, the airport ranks 8th in the world with 500 000 takeoffs and landings. On September 8th, 2015, British Airways Flight 2276, a Boeing 777, aborted takeoff due to an engine fire in the aircraft's left engine. The aircraft was scheduled to fly from McCarran International Airport to London Gatwick Airport. This incident did not result in any fatalities and only minor injuries occurred mostly as a result of the evacuation.
