This overview shows the Bay of Ponce de Leon in the Gulf of Mexico at southwestern Florida, United States. Located in Monroe County by the northwestern end of Cape Sable in the Everglades National Park, it leads into Oyster Bay in the East and finally into Whitewater Bay.
It is named after Juan Ponce de León, a European explorer who was the first recorded European to reach Florida. When in Everglades City, you can choose to take the Gulf route to Flamingo or the 99-mile Wilderness Waterway which sails you through the meanders of Shark River as shown in this high-resolution satellite image offered by Customaps.
