Turks and Caicos Islands

Print Description

North of Haiti and the Dominican Republic lies a cluster of islands known as The Turks and Caicos Islands, or TCI for short - a British Overseas Territory consisting of the larger Caicos Islands and smaller Turks Islands, two groups of tropical islands in the Lucayan Archipelago, north of the larger Antilles island grouping. Only five of the larger islands and a few of the smaller islands support human populations, and all of these low-lying islands sit atop undersea pillars of coral.

Turquoise, deep green, light blue, and bright sapphire blue colors combine in the waters surrounding the TCI, as shown in this NASA’s Landsat 8 satellite image, offered by Customaps. Centuries before the arrival of the Spaniards, the Turks and Caicos Islands were home to an indigenous population of Taintos Indians. In the eighteenth century, salt raking began, bringing in annual influxes of workers to assist with the salt harvest. As other attempts at industrialization floundered in succeeding centuries, salt harvesting remained the local economy’s stronghold into the mid-twentieth century.

Our map posters are printed on a premium 10 mil (235 g/m2) thick cellulose based paper. Environmentally friendly, it is PVC free and recyclable. It features a satin finish with low glare. Saturated with latex for durable indoor and temporary outdoor use.

Our wall murals are made of a self-adhesive thin polyester fabric material. They have the look and feel of a very thin canvas and do not require use of wallpaper paste or any extra glue for hanging. Our map murals can easily be removed, leaving no trace or sticky residue on 99% of any surface! They can be moved and re-applied over and over again, as the adhesive does not weaken or strengthen over time. Stick your map for a day – or stick it for a decade – still removes with no issues. Our material is green, nontoxic and safe. We protect them with a transparent laminate, which allows you to clean your map with a damp sponge.
